You feel drawn to creativity but keep finding reasons not to start
You've been meaning to make something for longer than you can remember
You want to be in a space that feels real, not produced
You're curious what happens when you just let your hand move
Who This Open Studio Is For
You feel restless but can't quite name why
You need 60 minutes that are entirely yours
You want to make something but don't know where or how to begin
You want to be in a room with someone who
genuinely believes in this work
You've told yourself you're not creative and
some part of you knows that isn't true
You're looking for a space that feels warm
and real, not performative

I've been making things my whole life. Not because I was particularly talented,
because it was the only place I could be found. At every fork in the road, making something showed me what thinking couldn't.
First Marks with Gem is the simplest version of what I do: showing up, making something and holding space for you to do the same. No agenda. No outcome required. Just 60 minutes of making in good company.
I'm a registered Creative Arts Therapist. I'm also a teacher, a ceremonial space holder and someone who has spent years going inward through the creative process.
The arts are just the door. I hold it open, that's all. You walk through.
60 minutes live with Gemma every second Tuesday

Everything you need to know before you arrive
No. The way you butter your toast in the morning is creative.
You don't have to pick up a paintbrush. You're creative innately just because you're alive.
First Marks with Gem meets you exactly where you are.

Whatever you have at home. A pen and paper is enough. If you want to gather more, bring whatever feels good: paint, pencils, fabric, clay.
There are no requirements, but ideas are sent out in the email.
